For the second year running, 19 delegates throughout New Zealand had the privilege to attend the JETAA New Zealand Summit hosted by JETAA Wellington.
Over the 20th to the 21st of February 2021, representatives from all three chapters came together to share and discuss their challenges and successes over the last year and topics relevant to the activities of JETAA chapters.
Topics explored included:
- New ways of promoting the JET Programme
- Creating meaningful engagement with the JETAA membership
- Supporting returning JETs
The general feedback was positive. As the annual Oceania conference could not take place this year, it was extremely valuable to have a forum for open discussion on successes, failures, and improvements.
Though CLAIR Sydney was unable to attend, New Zealand has been very fortunate to be one of the few countries with JETAA chapters to hold in-person meetings amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. Through this summit, the three New Zealand chapters were able to strengthen the connections formed the previous year, and it is hoped that their collaboration will create improved support for the JET programme and the relationship between Japan and New Zealand.
