The first inaugural Australia/New Zealand Japan Exchange and Teaching Programme Alumni Association conference was held in Sydney, hosted by Sydney JETAA at the Dixson Room at the NSW State Library.
50 delegates attended this first conference, which was subsidised by the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs and CLAIR. Proceedings began the evening of Friday, 13 October at the Japan Consul-General’s Residence in Rose Bay, hosted by Consul-General Mr Nobutake Odano. It was opened by the Federal Minister for Sport, Tourism and the Olympics, the Hon. Jackie Kelly MP. All the speakers paid tribute to the contribution to the education and internalisation influence that the JET Programme has had in Japan, and highlighted the unique skills that participants have that will benefit their home countries of Australia and New Zealand.
